Garstang CC are delighted to announce the signing of Luke Smith as an overseas amateur. Luke Smith is a talented, fluent left handed top order batsman from Kimberley, South Africa.
He has previously played for Ainsdale Cricket Club in the ECB Liverpool & District Cricket Competition in Division 1, the South African excelled at the top of the order racking up over 600 League runs, averaging in the mid 30's. Luke is no stranger to playing overseas as he spent time playing club cricket in New Zealand also for Takapuna Cricket Club.
Luke joins the team ahead of this weekend’s fixtures against Kendal in the league on Saturday and Longridge on Sunday in T20. I’m sure everyone at the club will give Luke a warm welcome and make him feel at home.
Due to league rules, the club is only allowed to register one overseas player for the Northern League, so the signing of Luke means the club have regretfully terminated the contract of our professional Snehal Kauthankar.
Unfortunately, Snehal had an issue with one of his documents which arose on the eve of the season. At the time of writing, he still hadn’t received his required paperwork and there would be a minimum of 2 more weeks before it was in place. With the amount of time that has elapsed, and with not knowing how much longer the process would take, the club believe that the decision has been made in the best interest of the club.
League rules prevent the club playing a sub-professional until your named professional has all of their documents in place, hence why the club haven’t been able to obtain one so far this season.
We wish Snehal all the best in the future.
